Twenty-five years ago, our company was born from a desire to do things right. Today, this desire drives our safety performance; performance that fulfills our moral obligation to continually reduce and eliminate human suffering due to injury and illness. We believe that Zero Accidents results from well trained, well equipped people professionally executing work according to plan. This is our core safety value and it is at the heart of our company’s culture, part of our identity.
Our approach to achieving safety success is unique and progressive in that safety performance is measured not in accidents, but rather, in pro-active metrics that are a true gauge of the level of safety performance for the company as a whole or for a given business unit, project or job site. We believe that outstanding safety performance is achieved when employees embrace the elements of our Health and Safety Process and permeate this “buy in’ to every level. This includes:
- Planning projects with employee health and safety in mind through all phases of work from mobilization, through execution and de-mobilization,
- Quality pre-task planning utilizing a job safety analysis process that includes all crew members,
- Treating accidents and near misses as learning opportunities so that true root causes can be identified which results in development and implementation of effective change,
- Employee participation in our Safety Observation Reporting Process that encourages all employees to continually identify and correct unsafe acts and conditions,
In addition, we realize that “safety begins with sales”, and, therefore, we strive to develop our business with customers that share our health and safety values.
The result of all of these values and processes is a belief that employee safety and health do not result from a safety program, but through effectively managing work. In the end, it fosters good employee relations, high morale and increased business.
